Mac For Video Editing Computer
Hello! I've got some questions about the best video editing setup for two Macbooks and external harddrives. So basically my girlfriend just started a YouTube channel (just one video uploaded so far) about fashion and what not and I do all the filming and editing for her (she is going to learn soon so we will both do it). The videos are planned to be 5-10 min long about and released every week.
Currently editing on gaming pc with only 1 filled up 1 TB harddrive. I use Vegas Pro on windows but when switching to mac we will use FCPX or Adobe Premire Pro, most likely FCPX. Both her and I are getting Macbooks. She is getting some macbook air while I'm getting the 15' pro retina. Both will only have 256 gb ssd. So! The questions are: 1. What would be the best setup and workflow with external harddrives for editing without spending lots? Some options will be below but of course let me know better alternatives. Could I easily get away with a lot less than the below? 2. Do I move all raw video files onto internal ssd and edit there then move everything out when done or edit right off the ssd? FCPX will be on internal ssd for sure along with both OSX and Windows when I use bootcamp for some games. Option 1: Docking stations + 2 WD Blacks. One bigger, one smaller. First for school stuff, finished raw videos (deleted after a couple weeks after render), finished rendered videos, misc. stuff. Second for editing raw footage only. Pros: pretty fast and consistent. Cons: not portable, work with mac?, little pricey Option 2: WD Mybook 3TB + WD passport ultra: same setup as above basically Pros: cheaper, Passport would be portable Cons: slower Options 3: WD Mybook 3TB + this portable ssd ( http://www.amazon.com/MyDigitalSSD-SuperSpeed-Portable-External-Storage/dp/B00EZ2FRP2/ref=lp_3015429011_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1418705466&sr=1-6 ): same setup Pros: very fast, portable Cons: size? price is okay but not cheapest per gb. Thanks guys! P.S. These options are not us sharing. It would be one option for each of us. So if it were option 1 it would be 2 docking stations and 4 WD Blacks. Comments are closed.
